Women empowerment

The womengroup of nearly 70 women present proudly the new products they will be able to produce in the near future

In Kenya – as in many other developing countries – women often carry the main responsibility as well as the major burden as breadwinners for the family.

It is for this reason that a large part of our work is to support women in such a way that they are in a position to tackle this role, i.e. to be able to feed their families.

Many of our workshops offered in 2012 served to teach the women in Mbale different crafting techniques. Through this process, they were and are enabled to produce various products – for the most part art objects and commodities – by themselves.

In the mid-term, the workshops, which were received with great interest and an enormous amount of enthusiasm, should contribute to enabling the people concerned to earn their livelihood independently.
